What is Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation
How does it work ?
A small battery-powered Transcutaneous (through the skin) Electrical Nerve Stimulator. The unit is completely portable allowing movement and is discreet enough to wear under clothing. Four electrodes (pads taped to your back) send impulses, often described as "pins and needles" to the brain blocking some of the pain felt in labour. This unit can be used at home, going to and in hospital. It is most beneficial from early labour.
Using TENS and water during labour
This unit cannot be used in a birthing pool, however it can be used beneficially prior to using a birthing pool. However its benefits have been proven with use at home deliveries and before going into hospital. The unit can also be used throughout a monitored hospital delivery.
